Holiday Dog Treats and Christmas Food Recipes

The holidays are a time to share and laugh with friends, loved ones, along with your canine friend too.

Your dog deserves a fancy holiday treat just as much as you. Here are some delicious homemade holiday dog treat recipes, and Christmas food for your furry canine.

Ginger Snaps for Dogs

Ingredients:

             2 Cups Brown Rice Flour

            1 Tbs Ground Ginger

            1 Tsp Of Cinnamon

            1 Tsp Turmeric Powder

            1/4 Cup Coconut Oil (Melted)

            3 Tbsp Honey

            1 Egg

            1/4 Cup Applesauce

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 F

Whisk dry ingredients together until well combined.

Whisk coconut oil, honey, egg, and applesauce together and stir into the dry mixture.

Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll the dough out to about ½ inch thick and use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. Alternatively, you can roll the dough into 1 inch balls and flatten them on your baking sheet with your palm.

Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before treating your pooch.

Store in an air-tight container at room temperature.

Dog Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles for dogs, Yes these chewy, buttery, cinnamon cookies might be your go-to Christmas snack, but your dog needs something a little less sweet.

Prep time: 20 minutes Cook time: 8 minutes Servings: 2 to 3 dozen

Ingredients:

    1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil

    1/2 Cup Shortening

    1 Cup Honey

    2 Eggs

    3 3/4 Cups White Flour

    2 Teaspoons Cream Of Tartar

    1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

    1/2 Cup Cornmeal

    2 Teaspoons Cinnamon

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400ºF.

In a bowl, mix vegetable oil, shortening, and honey together until smooth. Add eggs and beat well. Then, blend in flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Knead dough until well-mixed. Shape dough with rounded teaspoons into balls.

Mix the cornmeal and cinnamon together in a bowl. Roll the dough balls in mixture. Place balls about 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with a nonstick spray. Press the balls down with a fork twice going in 2 different directions, or press with your favorite stamp.

Bake 8 minutes, then remove from baking sheet and cool on a rack.

Sweet Potato Dog Chews

 Ingredients:

 2 Raw Sweet Potato’s
 or
2 Yam’s

Directions:

Preheat oven to 250°F.
Wash the sweet potato or yam
Cut down the middle lengthwise.
Then cut long lengthwise slices about 1/3 of an inch wide and place on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Bake in oven at 250 F for about 3 hours. This leaves them kind of chewy but you could also bake them a little longer to get them crunchy.

Christmas Stew Dinner

Ingredients:

12 Oz Turkey, Beef Or Chicken-cut up

1 Cup Brown Rice

2 Cups Mixed Frozen Vegetables

2 Cups Cubed Sweet Potatoes

2 ½ Cups Water

Directions:

Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker making sure the Turkey, Beef Or Chicken is completely covered with the other ingredients. Cook on low heat for 8 hours until cooked through. Turn off heat, stir everything together until well mixed. Allow cooling before serving a portion appropriate for your dog.

Doggy Christmas Meatballs

Meatballs are the easiest way to put all the best holiday dinner flavors into one dog-safe recipe. This recipe is easily customizable and easy to feed. Just top your dog's regular food with a meatball or two, or feed them as a separate high-value snack. 

Ingredients:

8 Oz Ground Turkey Or Beef

1/2 Cup Canned Pumpkin Or Sweet Potato Puree

½ Cup Spinach (Chopped)

¼ Cup Cranberries

1 Egg

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 F

Chop the cranberries and spinach finely. 

In a bowl, mix all ingredients together and roll into 1-inch meatballs.

Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Allow the meatballs to cool completely before serving to your pooch. 

Can be fed as a treat or as part of your dog’s regular meal. 

Store in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month.

Turkey / Beef Meatloaf Dinner

Here is a nice and simple recipe for all sorts of dogs out there whether they are overweight, underweight, or suffering from an illness. This special turkey meatloaf recipe is a great way of showing your dog the importance of a well-balanced diet during the holiday season. Check out the full video recipe here. 

Ingredients: 

3 Lb Lean Ground Turkey / Beef

1 ½ Cup Oats

1 ½ Grated Carrots, Green Beans, Apples, Pumpkin, Squash

2    Eggs 

1/2 Cup Low Fat Cottage Cheese

 Directions:

Preheat your oven to 400°.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix together.

Once all of your ingredients are thoroughly combined, press the mixture into a loaf pan. After that, Bake in your 400° oven for about 80 minutes, or until golden brown on top and fully cooked. Therefore, always use a meat thermometer to ensure that it’s cooked to the proper temperature, depending on the meat that you used.

Recommended serving is 3 tablespoons of completed recipe with your dog kibble.

Store in an airtight container, in the refrigerator up to five days. In addition, you can also freeze these doggy meatloaves (cooked or uncooked) for up to two months.
