Super Foods for your Dog
Super foods In Your Kitchen, Healthy Treats For Dogs.
Since more and more dog owners have started feeding their dogs healthier foods, and started becoming more aware of what they're putting in their dogs' bowls, the term "superfood" has become ubiquitous. It’s been used to describe everything from acai berries to zucchini, and it’s helped sell a lot of supplements.
Carrots
This low-calorie snack is high in beta-carotene which boosts night vision and helps protect eyes against cataracts. Baby Carrots are preferred to avoid a choking hazard, especially for small dogs.
Apples (Without the Seeds)
This full-of-fiber food helps to clean your dog’s teeth while he chews and can even freshen their breath.
Turkey
Skinless, boneless, unseasoned roasted turkey is a protein-packed food that also provides potassium and essential amino acids.
Sweet Potatoes
There are many benefits to eating sweet potatoes, including dietary fiber, natural sugars, and antioxidants that help prevent cancer.
Broccoli
Broccoli boasts cancer-fighting powers, is rich in eye-protecting lutein, and is an excellent source of potassium, fiber, and calcium.
Eggs
Eggs are one of the most nutritious sources of highly digestible protein. They’re bursting with amino acids (the body’s building blocks) and rich in vitamins and nutrients that help the eyes, brain, and heart. Eggs can also be a stomach-soother for dogs who have lost their appetite. Cooked eggs are recommended to prevent Salmonella.
Sardines
Sardines are nutritional powerhouses that are great for active dogs. They’re packed with vitamin B12, omega-3 oils, protein, vitamin D, and more.
Canned Pumpkin Puree
Pumpkins are packed full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids that regulate digestion, support the immune system, create healthy skin, and could even help prevent cancer. Word of advice: You should not give your dog pumpkin more than once every other day, as too much pumpkin can cause diarrhea and or liquid stool.
Kelp
Kelp is a rich source of sodium, calcium, vitamin A, folic acid, and iodine. It’s reported to improve energy, enhance the immune system and some researchers even say that it helps with weight loss.
Quinoa
Known as the mother of all grains, quinoa is a highly nutritious seed and a significant source of fiber and protein. It’s also easy for dogs to digest.
Bananas
Bananas are great for active, athletic dogs. The natural sugars metabolize quickly and provide an instant boost of energy – they’re also full of amino acids, electrolytes, vitamin C, and potassium. Some dogs do not like the taste or the texture of bananas, and you might find yourself eating the whole banana.
