Homemade Dog Food for Winter

Proper diet in the winter time is essential for dogs to stay healthy. Dogs do need more calories In the winter time, than other months during the year, so you may want to adjustments their diet as it can impact your dog’s health to help support a healthy happy pooch. Here are some winter feeding tips for dogs to help them stay healthy in the coldest months of the year.

Crockpot Meal for Dog Food

 Ingredients:

 2 1/2 Pounds Ground Turkey/ Beef / Chicken

1 1/2 Cups Brown Rice

1 1/2 Cups Chopped Butternut Squash

1 1/2 Cups Chopped Carrots

Directions:

Firstly, Stir in ground Turkey/ Beef / Chicken, brown rice, butternut squash, carrots, and 4 cups water into a 6-qt slow cooker.

Second, Cover and cook on low heat for 5-6 hours. Or, high heat for 2-3 hours, stirring as needed.

Finally, Let cool completely.

Feeding add 3 tablespoons of water, 3 tablespoons with your dogs kibble. 

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to five days, or in the freezer up to two month.

Turkey and Rice Meal

 Ingredients:

 6 Cups Water

1 Pound Ground Turkey

2 Cups Brown Rice

1 Teaspoon Dried Rosemary

1/2 (16 Ounce) Package Frozen Broccoli, Carrots And Cauliflower Combination

Directions

Place the water, ground turkey, rice, and rosemary into a large Dutch oven.

Stir until the ground turkey is broken up and evenly distributed throughout the mixture. Secondly, bring to a boil over high heat. Finally, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.

Add the frozen vegetables, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Then, Remove from heat and cool.

Feeding add 3 tablespoons of water, 3 tablespoons with your dogs kibble. 

Storage an airtight container in the refrigerator up to five days, or in the freezer up to two month.

Doggie Beef Stew

 Ingredients:

One Sweet Potato

1/2 Cup Of Diced Tomatoes

 A Pound Of Beef Stew Meat

 Half Cup Of Flour

1/2 Cup Of Diced Green Beans

1/2 Cup Of Water

1 Tablespoon Of Olive Oil

 Directions

Start by cooking the sweet potato in the microwave. For about 5 to 8 minutes for the potato to become firm and tender. Once it is done, set it aside.

Slice the beef stew meat into smaller pieces. Then, Cook them in a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Additionally, You would want the meat to be well done. This should take around 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pan. However, Reserve the drippings.

Heat the drippings over medium-low heat before adding flour and water. Then, Whisk the ingredients until thick gravy has been created.

Now, Dice the sweet potato. Then, Add this to the gravy along with the meat, carrots, and green beans. In addition, Stir to coat.

Finally, Cook for 10 minutes or until the carrots are tender. Feeding add 3 tablespoons of water, 3 tablespoons with your dogs kibble.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five day,  in the freezer for up to two months.

Feeding

Recommend feeding about 1/2 cup of food for every 20-25 pounds of body weight. This is just a guideline.

Some dogs, like working dogs and very active breeds, will need more calories than this. Lazier pets and senior dogs may not need as many.
