Thanksgiving Dog Treat Recipes

Thanksgiving is a time we all enjoy gathering with our furry friends, our human friends and family for a celebration of the wonderful things in our lives–including our dogs. Homemade dog treats are the perfect Thanksgiving treat for your dog!

Turkey & Cranberry Dog Treat Recipe

Ingredients

1 Cup Whole Cranberries

1 Cup Cooked, Boned Turkey

3-1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour

1 Egg

1 Tablespoon Baking Powder

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

1/2 Cup Water Or Broth As Needed

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease two cookie sheets.

Mix the flour and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. In a blender or food processor, combine the turkey, olive oil, and egg (and some of the water or broth as needed). When the turkey is the consistency of baby food, add cranberries and continue to mix.

Pour this mixture into the mixing bowl with the dry ingredients and stir to create a thick dough.

On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough. (This is a heavy dough so you’ll need to put a little muscle in it!)

Cut into biscuit shapes and bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely before serving or refrigerating. Store in the refrigerator for 3 days or freeze in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Pooch Pumpkin Pie Treats

Ingredients

2 apples, washed, peeled, sliced in half and cored

4 oz. Canned Pumpkin

Cinnamon

Directions

Place the apples face up on the cookie sheet. Spoon pumpkin into the apple center. Sprinkle cinnamon on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Allow to cool and serve. Or, freeze after baking and serve frozen. The “pie” will last longer and be less messy.

Apple Asiago Dog Treats

Ingredients

2 Cups Barley Flour

1/2 Cup Old-Fashioned Oatmeal

1/3 Cup Shredded Gruyere Cheese

1/4 Cup Shredded Asiago Cheese

1/3 Cup Sugar-Free Applesauce

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients. The dough is pretty dry so add enough water for it form into dough. We added about 1/8 cup.

Knead dough with hands and then place on a sheet of wax paper. Cover the dough with a second sheet of paper and start rolling! Roll the dough out until it is about 1/4 inch thick.

Pumpkin Spice Treats

Ingredients

1 1/3 Cup Oat Flour

1 Cup Tapioca Flour

2/3 Cup Coconut Flour

2 Tsp Baking Powder

2 Tsp Cinnamon

2 Tsp Turmeric

1/2 Tsp Ginger

Pinch Of Allspice

Pinch Of Clove

1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

3 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 Egg

1 Cup Pumpkin

2 Tsp Molasses

Directions

Preheat oven to 350º and move oven racks to the middle so you can use two cookie sheets at once.

Combine dry ingredients in the bowl of food processor and pulse lightly to combine.

Add wet ingredients, and pulse intermittently until the dough comes together.

Turn dough out onto a floured board, adding additional oat flour until dough is no longer sticky.

Cut dough into whatever shapes you fancy, placing onto parchment-lined cookie sheets.

Bake for 30 minutes, then turn off the oven but leave the cookies inside to cool for extra crunch.

No Bake Coco-Nutter Pumpkin Dog Cookies

Ingredients

1 Cup Pumpkin Puree (Mashed Sweet Potato Or Butternut Squash Works Too)

1/2 Cup Unsweetened Peanut Butter (No Xylitol!)

1 Cup Rolled Oats

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

2 Tbsp Honey (Maple Syrup Also Works)

1/2 Cup Unsweetened Dried Coconut Flakes

Directions

Melt the coconut oil in a microwave or hob.

Line a baking tray or large dish with baking paper.

Place all ingredients (except dessicated coconut) into the food processor bowl and pulse to combine, pushing down the sides as necessary, until the dough starts to hold together.

Move dough to a plate or mixing bowl. With lightly oiled hands, divide the dough roughly into quarters. Each quarter should make about 8 biscuits, for a total of 32 cookies, or you can make smaller cookies for smaller dogs.

Roll each ball to a smooth and uniform shape, then place on parchment.

Place desiccated coconut into a clean bowl.

Roll each ball in a handful of coconut until evenly coated.

Place biscuits into a lined tupperware container, layering with more baking paper if necessary.
